On a beautiful sunny morning, I was driving to work for a very important meeting.

Feeling all prepared, I was ready to nail my presentation, when suddenly my car broke down. I was getting really late and in no way, I could get immediate help. Sometimes we all face situations which we least expect. Anyway, I got out of the car, cursing my fate, then it clicked that I had seen my father change a tire a few times.

Nonetheless, I decided to try my luck. My father divided the process of changing a tire  into 10 steps:

1.Firstly, push the car and take it to the side of the road. Try to place a car on flat and even path. After that engage the handbrake. Also, make sure you switch off the engine. This will prevent the car from rolling.

2.Keep a heavy article in front and behind the concerned tire ( for example a rock). Set up a warning sign so that the ongoing vehicles are given a signal.

3.Remove the spare tire, jack and wrench from the boot. Place the jack in the correct place after reading the owner’s manual. For most of the cars, there is a small mark in front of the front wheel. The jack is supposed to be put there.

4. Then loosen the lug nuts using the wrench. Move the nuts in the counter-clockwise direction. Use the wrench for this purpose and turn it on the left side. This could be tougher and require energy, so get help if possible.The car should be jacked up six inches above the ground.

5.Pull the tire out and remove the lug nuts. Make sure you remove tire directly towards yourself so that the wheel base is not affected. Also, keep the nuts in a specific place together.

6. Keep the tire that got punctured, under the vehicle so that if jack moves or fails injury can be prevented, because the car will directly fall on the wheel.

7. Keep the spare tire where it is intended to be put. Line all the lug posts and holes in the spare tire and try pushing it to the wheelbase slowly. Constantly push them till they cannot be pushed.

8. Gradually get the car back on the ground by the help of the jack. Then remove it from below the car.

9. By hook or crook, the lug nuts should be completely tight. Since the car now is back on the ground level it will be easy to tighten the lug nuts. Instead of tightening the nut at a time you can tighten one by half and then move on to the other which is on the opposite side of the circle.

10. Put everything back and clean up the road so that you do not forget anything.
